A specialized opportunity is available for a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist to support students in a school setting located in Aurora, IL. This contract position requires expertise in deaf education and the ability to provide tailored support to meet the unique needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction and support services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Develop individualized education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with educators, parents, and related service providers.
- Utilize appropriate communication methods, including sign language, to facilitate student learning and engagement.
- Monitor and assess student progress, adapting instructional strategies as needed.
- Provide consultative services to classroom teachers and staff to promote an inclusive learning environment.
- Assist in training school personnel on best practices related to deaf and hard of hearing education.
Qualifications:
- Certification or licensure relevant to Deaf / Hard of Hearing education.
- Proven experience working with deaf or hard of hearing students in a school environment.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication modalities favored by the student population.
- Strong understanding of strategies and accommodations for students with hearing loss.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
