Qualifications & Desired Background:
- State certification or licensure as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist (or eligibility)
- Previous experience working with Deaf or Hard of Hearing students within a school or educational setting
- Strong understanding of educational modifications, technology, and resources for hearing accessibility
- Commitment to advocacy, inclusion, and communication support
- Proficiency in sign language (ASL or Signed English) is preferred
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct services to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing to support academic and social success
- Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and families to develop and implement appropriate Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Offer consultation and training on hearing loss awareness, classroom accommodations, and accessible instruction for school personnel
- Assist in the selection and use of assistive technology and classroom resources to optimize student participation
- Monitor student progress and adjust support plans based on data and feedback
- Facilitate communication between students, staff, and families through a variety of strategies
- Foster a supportive, positive environment that empowers students to achieve their goals
