Job Description

Location: Palmdale, CA Setting: K-12 School (Preschool to Middle School) Schedule: Part-time, 20-35 hours per week, 5 days per week Duration: School Year (NSY) Contract

This role supports therapeutic recreation services for a small caseload of two students spanning preschool through middle school. The position requires expertise in adaptive physical education and recreational therapy within the educational setting. The ideal candidate will apply specialized therapeutic recreation processes to enhance students physical, social, and emotional development.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree from a regionally-accredited college or university with a concentration in Recreation Therapy, or completion of recreational therapy-specific coursework plus relevant paid work experience using therapeutic recreation processes
  • Certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) through the National Council on Therapeutic Recreation Certification, OR Recreation Therapist Certified (RTC) issued by the California Board of Recreation Therapy Certification (CBRTC)

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized therapeutic recreation plans to meet students physical and developmental needs
  • Collaborate with school staff, including adaptive physical education and other therapists, to integrate therapy goals into educational activities
  • Monitor student progress and adjust interventions as necessary
  • Maintain accurate documentation and comply with school policies and regulations
  • Provide supportive guidance to students and families regarding recreational therapy benefits and techniques
