Job Description

This position offers a rewarding opportunity to support children from preschool through middle school by providing therapeutic recreational services that promote physical, emotional, and social well-being. The role is contract-based with a commitment for the next school year, located in Palmdale, CA, serving a small caseload of two students within a K-12 educational setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized recreational therapy plans tailored to the needs of students.
  • Utilize adaptive physical education techniques to engage children in therapeutic activities.
  • Collaborate closely with educators, therapists, and families to support overall student progress.
  • Monitor student development and adjust interventions accordingly to achieve goals.
  • Maintain detailed documentation and comply with all regulatory standards.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree from a regionally-accredited institution with a concentration in Recreation Therapy, or completion of relevant coursework coupled with paid work experience utilizing therapeutic recreation processes.
  • Current certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or Recreation Therapist Certified (RTC) by recognized certifying bodies.
  • Experience working with young children in therapeutic or educational settings preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.

Position Details:

  • Location: Palmdale, CA
  • Contract duration: Next school year (NSY)
  • Hours: 20 to 35 hours per week over 5 days
  • Age group: Preschool through middle school
  • Caseload: 2 students
