Job Description

This position seeks a Recreational Therapist to provide therapeutic recreation services within a K-12 educational setting, serving students from preschool through middle school. This contract role, located in Palmdale, CA, offers part-time hours ranging from 20 to 35 per week over 5 days, with a small caseload of 2 students, enabling focused, individualized care.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university, either:
    • Concentrated in Recreation Therapy, OR
    • Completion of recreational therapy-specific coursework combined with paid work experience using therapeutic recreation processes
  • Certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) issued by the National Council on Therapeutic Recreation Certification, OR
  • Recreation Therapist Certified (RTC) designation from the California Board of Recreation Therapy Certification (CBRTC)

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement therapeutic recreation programs tailored to meet the developmental and physical needs of students aged preschool through middle school
  • Collaborate with educational staff, therapists, and families to deliver adaptive physical education and recreational therapy services
  • Maintain documentation and progress reports for individualized student caseloads
  • Promote physical activity, socialization, and emotional well-being through engaging recreational activities that support educational goals
