Job Description

This position offers an opportunity for experienced RNs skilled in medical-surgical and telemetry care to support inpatient units in a dynamic hospital setting. The role requires adaptability and clinical proficiency in managing complex patient care with a focus on teamwork and patient safety.

Position Type: Contract

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality nursing care to patients on medical-surgical and telemetry units.
  • Perform clinical tasks including tracheostomy care, chest tube management, PIV starts, and glucometer testing.
  • Administer common intravenous drips such as insulin and heparin, titrating according to heart rate parameters.
  • Collaborate with CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Float across various Med/Tele units as required, providing flexible support throughout the hospital.
  • Utilize EMR systems and medical equipment to accurately document and monitor patient status.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Current RN license with at least 2 years of medical-surgical and telemetry nursing experience required.
  • BLS certification mandatory; ACLS preferred. Must successfully complete EKG competency testing during orientation.
  • Certification in med-surg nursing is a plus, but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex patient care including IV drips and respiratory devices.

Facility and Unit Information:

  • The hospital is a teaching facility with a Level 1 Trauma designation, chest pain center, and stroke center.
  • Units have 20-36 beds with typical RN-to-patient ratios ranging from 1:4 to 1:6.
  • The work environment is busy and team-oriented, supported by a broad clinical support structure including phlebotomy, radiology, respiratory therapy, and intensivists.
