Job Description

A specialized nursing opportunity is available for experienced RNs with a strong background in stepdown cardiac care. This contract position offers the chance to care for complex cardiac patients post-surgery in a 36-bed stepdown unit that manages pre- and post-op open heart cases such as CABG, valve repairs, mitral clip, and TAVR procedures. The unit also handles lung-related cases including pneumothorax and chest tubes, providing a diverse and challenging clinical environment.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum 1.5 years of stepdown/PCU nursing experience with documented 1:5 patient ratio; ICU experience alone will not qualify.
  • Proven cardiac experience, specifically CABG and valve post-op care.
  • Proficiency with cardiac telemetry, including NIH stroke scale and cardiac drip titration.
  • Certification in BLS, ACLS, and IV start.
  • Ability to pass an online EKG telemetry competency assessment prior to assignment.
  • Familiarity with EPIC electronic medical records system.
  • Experience with high-risk respiratory and cardiac critical care patients preferred.
  • Must be able to float to other units within a 15-mile radius, including COVID or respiratory units as assigned.
  • Weekend and holiday availability on an every-other schedule.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional nursing care for advanced cardiac patients with continuous telemetry monitoring.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive post-op recovery and management.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation in EPIC.
  • Support unit staffing flexibility by floating to specialty and high-acuity units as required.
  • Comply with personal protective equipment protocols, including N95 fitting or PAPR usage.

Schedule:

  • Night shifts, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (19:00 - 07:30).

Additional Details:

  • Navy blue scrubs required.
  • Contract assignment includes provisions for shift cancellations based on census with appropriate notice.
  • Travelers must submit applications including Nursys report and demonstrate required experience to avoid processing delays.
