Job Description

Provide expert nursing care in a dynamic Surgical Stepdown unit supporting post-operative and high-acuity patients within a busy, respected medical center in St. Louis, Missouri. This 13-week contract opportunity offers night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM with either 36 or 48 guaranteed hours weekly, tailored to your schedule preference on submission.

Responsibilities include delivering high-quality nursing care to adult patients using comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. You will monitor patients recovering from complex surgical procedures, including those requiring Bipap, cardiac drips, or trauma care. Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and maintain confidentiality aligned with established professional standards and facility missions. Flexibility to float to other departments of equal or lower acuity is expected.

Key Qualifications and Experience:

  • Current RN license eligible or licensed in Missouri
  • Minimum 2 years experience in Stepdown or ICU settings
  • BLS and ACLS certifications from AHA (required)
  • Skilled in managing high-acuity post-operative patients, cardiac care, and respiratory support
  • Strong critical thinking, time management, and teamwork abilities
  • Positive attitude and problem-solving mindset

Unit & Facility Overview: This 29-bed Surgical Stepdown unit provides care with patient ratios of 1:3 or 1:4, utilizing EPIC electronic medical records. The hospital serves as a Level 2 Trauma Center and a nationally recognized comprehensive stroke and cardiac care center with a longstanding reputation in South St. Louis County.

  • Dress code: Black scrubs with facility-approved attire
