Job Description

Deliver advanced patient care on a specialized stepdown unit focused on general medicine and oncology patients. This position requires a skilled RN with oncology certification who is adept at managing complex care needs in a dynamic hospital setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer chemotherapy intravenously with precision and safety.
  • Initiate and manage IV therapy for various patient needs.
  • Utilize Welch Allyn vital sign towers and Sigma IV pumps for patient monitoring.
  • Document all care and treatments accurately using the EPIC electronic health record system.
  • Provide expert care in a nurse-to-patient ratio ranging from 1:4 to 1:6, adjusting for chemo admissions.
  • Float to other medical-surgical areas, including Assessment Unit (AU) and Emergency Room (ER), when required.
  • Collaborate with support staff and charge nurses to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Current Michigan RN license required.
  • Valid BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Oncology Nursing Certification (ONC) or Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) certificationmust be in hand; pending ONS certification acceptable.
  • Minimum 2 years of recent experience in PCU or stepdown nursing.
  • Demonstrated competence in chemotherapy administration and IV start.
  • Ability to work night shifts and every other weekend.
  • Flexibility to adapt to block scheduling and unit float assignments.

Schedule & Hours:

  • Night shift: 3 twelve-hour shifts (7:00 PM 7:30 AM).
  • Weekends assigned by manager; other shifts self-scheduled.
  • Must be available for the first two weeks of the assignment.
