Job Description

Step into a specialized nursing role focused on cardiac and critical care in an intermediate care setting in Milwaukee, WI. This travel position offers a challenging and rewarding experience caring for a diverse patient population with acute cardiac conditions, as well as respiratory and neurological needs.

The Night Shift on this HCU unit cares for patients with heart failure, post-open heart surgery, arrhythmias, acute MIs, strokes, respiratory failure, sepsis, and other complex medical cases. Patient assignments typically range from 4-5 per nurse. You will work 36 hours per week with every other weekend and holiday rotation included. There is opportunity to float to nearby medical centers if needed, offering variety and skill expansion.

Key Qualifications:

  • Valid WI or Compact RN license
  • Current AHA BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • Minimum 1 year cardiac nursing experience; 2+ years medical-surgical experience strongly preferred
  • Completed at least one previous travel assignment
  • Proficient in rhythm interpretation and routine cardiac care (open heart surgical patients, chest pain, heart failure, MIs, pacemakers, ablations, TAVRs, cardiac cath patients)
  • Current Epic charting experience within last 12 months
  • ICU nurses with comfort managing 1:4-5 patient ratios on HCU also encouraged to apply

Responsibilities:

  • Manage complex cardiac and critical patients in a high-acuity stepdown unit
  • Provide comprehensive bedside nursing care including monitoring, assessments, and medication administration
  • Respond to patient changes and emergencies promptly
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and support floating duties as census requires
  • Maintain thorough and accurate documentation in Epic
