Job Description
A registered nurse with stepdown experience is needed for a contract position in Kalamazoo, MI, supporting a specialized med/surg oncology stepdown unit. This role requires expertise in administering chemotherapy via IV and strong proficiency with relevant medical equipment.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Current Michigan RN license
- BLS certification from AHA
- ONCC or ONS certification required; pending ONS will be considered, but ONC must be in hand
- Minimum 2 years of experience in PCU or stepdown nursing
- Competency in starting IVs and administering chemotherapy
- Familiarity with Welch Allyn Vital Sign towers, Sigma IV pumps, and EPIC documentation system
Responsibilities:
- Care for oncology and general medical patients in a stepdown setting
- Administer chemotherapy treatments safely and accurately
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to manage patient care
- Float to other med-surg areas as needed, including acute units and emergency rooms
- Adhere to nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-6, with support staff flexing as necessary
- Participate in weekend shifts every other weekend and work night shifts on a 3x12-hour schedule (7 PM to 7:30 AM)
Schedule and Work Environment:
- Night shift: 19:00 07:30, 3 shifts per week
- Weekend work every other weekend
- Block scheduling available upon request
- Self-scheduling available for non-weekend shifts; weekends assigned by management
- Manager approval required for any time-off requests after offer acceptance
