Job Description
Provide critical care in a Level 2 trauma center specializing in stepdown nursing on the Surgical Trauma Unit. This contract role is based in Irving, TX, on the 5th floor of a busy surgical trauma unit equipped with Meditech EMR and staffed by a dedicated team of RNs, techs, and support personnel. The unit handles complex cases including trauma surgery, orthopedic procedures, neuro/spine surgery, vascular surgery, and acute cardiac events.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver nursing care for patients requiring acute surgical intervention, post-op monitoring, and trauma care.
- Monitor telemetry, vital signs, and neurological status with assessments every four hours.
- Administer intravenous drips including amiodarone, dobutamine, dopamine, heparin, nitroglycerin, and others as ordered.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Manage patients with diverse diagnoses such as traumatic brain injury, hypertensive crisis, sepsis, pulmonary embolism, and congestive heart failure.
- Maintain clear, accurate documentation in the Meditech electronic medical record system.
- Adhere to unit policies including telemetry monitoring and frequent patient assessment.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required.
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications are mandatory.
- Strong clinical skills in trauma, stepdown, or progressive care nursing.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Prior experience with Meditech EMR preferred.
- Trauma and orthopedic nursing experience is highly valued.
Location Information: Situated in Irving, TX, this facility is part of a Level 2 trauma center with a high volume of emergency department admissions. The 25-bed unit provides a fast-paced environment with a patient-to-nurse ratio capped at 5:1 for stepdown care, supporting professional growth through exposure to diverse acute conditions and advanced surgical cases.
