Provide critical care to step-down ICU patients in a well-regarded teaching hospital with Level 1 Trauma designation. This role focuses on managing complex cases including respiratory failure, sepsis, stroke, and other serious conditions in a progressive care unit setting. The position offers a contract opportunity, perfect for nurses with PCU or step-down ICU experience seeking a dynamic and supportive clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care for a maximum census of 10 patients with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3-4.
- Manage patients with complex diagnoses such as respiratory failure, renal failure, sepsis, DKA, and stroke.
- Perform clinical interventions including tracheostomy and chest tube care, PIV starts, and insulin/heparin drip management.
- Monitor invasive lines including arterial and central venous lines and perform assessments using telemetry and other monitoring devices.
- Collaborate closely with CNAs, charge nurses, respiratory therapists, and physicians including hospitalists and intensivists available 24/7.
- Utilize EPIC electronic medical records and specialized equipment like Alaris IV pumps and Phillip monitors.
- Participate in a 6-week rotating schedule with 12-hour shifts and weekend and holiday duties.
Qualifications & Desired Experience
- Minimum two years of PCU nursing experience required.
- Active RN license and current certifications including NIHSS, BLS, and ACLS.
- CCRN certification preferred but not mandatory.
- Competency in cardiac rhythm interpretation (BCR) and EKG examination required.
- Proficient in managing trachs, chest tubes, arterial lines, and complex drip titrations.
Schedule
- 12-hour shifts, day or night (7A-7P or 7P-7A)
- Weekend rotation: approximately 5-6 weekends per 12-week period
- Holiday rotation includes working one major holiday per cycle
- No on-call responsibilities
