An opportunity to apply your expertise in progressive nursing care awaits in a travel role based in Asheville, NC. This position focuses on a step-down unit with a blend of step-down and medical-surgical patient care, offering a dynamic work environment where your skills in critical and subacute nursing are essential.
The unit features 23 step-down beds and 16 medical-surgical beds, supporting patients who require close monitoring such as those on cardiac drips, stable ventilated patients, tracheostomies, and chest tubes. You'll work with a dedicated team of RNs and Patient Care Technicians, maintaining patient ratios of 1:3-4 in step-down and 1:4-6 in med-surg areas. The unit utilizes Cerner EMR and is equipped with modern lifting devices to assist patient care.
Ideal candidates will have a minimum of 2 years nursing experience and strong clinical competence, particularly with tracheostomy care. Experience with Cerner EMR is preferred. Required certifications include ACLS and BLS. Flexibility and dedication to high-quality nursing practice are key to thriving in this role.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing comprehensive nursing care for step-down and med-surg patients
- Managing trach care, chest tube maintenance, and wound dressing changes
- Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes
- Adhering to unit policies and protocols, including navy blue scrub attire
- Working scheduled weekends with approximately 6 shifts every 6 weeks
