Opportunity for an experienced Psychiatric Registered Nurse to provide specialized care on a geriatric psychiatric unit within a reputable healthcare environment located in Asheville, NC. This contract position offers a unique chance to apply behavioral health expertise while making a positive impact on elderly patients with mental health needs.
Responsibilities include:
- Delivering comprehensive nursing assessments and interventions to geriatric psychiatric patients
- Monitoring vital signs and managing medical procedures such as bladder scans, blood draws, and rapid response actions including Code Blue situations
- Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams including Behavioral Health Technicians to optimize patient care
- Utilizing critical thinking and de-escalation techniques to ensure a safe and supportive patient environment
- Documenting patient information accurately within the Cerner electronic medical record system
- Adhering to unit-specific policies, such as dress code standards and weekend work requirements
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Current RN licensure with Psychiatric Nursing experience
- BLS certification required
- Proficiency in behavioral health nursing with demonstrated skills in patient assessment and compassionate care
- Experience with geriatric populations highly preferred
- Strong critical thinking capabilities and the ability to work effectively within a team
- Flexibility to work weekend shifts as required; no on-call responsibilities
