Job Description

Provide expert critical care as an RN in a specialized Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) within a nationally recognized childrens hospital in Madison, WI. This contract opportunity offers a rewarding chance to care for critically ill or injured children in a state-of-the-art 21-bed unit dedicated to family-centered care and advanced pediatric medical and surgical treatment.

Location:
The American Family Childrens Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin, is a Magnet-designated facility renowned for its specialized pediatric care. The hospital is affiliated with the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and offers a warm, healing environment that supports the recovery of patients across a broad spectrum of complex conditions. Schedule:

  • Day/Evening shifts
  • 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM 7:30 PM)
  • Work every Friday through Sunday

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver comprehensive nursing care to pediatric patients with varied medical and surgical diagnoses including acute head injuries, neurological disorders, pulmonary diseases, cardiac anomalies, organ transplantation, multi-system organ failure, and ECMO management
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to support critically ill children and their families
  • Provide care in a highly specialized and technologically advanced environment
  • Adapt to flexible floating assignments across multiple units as staffing needs require

Qualifications:

  • Current Wisconsin RN license or a valid compact nursing license from the permanent state of residence
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent acute care experience (last 3 years), preferably in high-acuity pediatric ICU settings
  • Strong Pediatric ICU experience with general cardiac care
  • Current American Heart Association certifications in BLS and PALS (required)
  • EPIC electronic medical record proficiency within the past 12 months (required)
  • Basic Arrhythmia Monitoring experience; Telemetry certification or successful completion of the Telemetry test is needed before starting
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred)

Additional Requirements:

  • Permanent address must be within 50 miles of Madison, WI
  • First-time travelers are eligible if qualified
  • Permit required for onsite parking; public transit and alternative options available
