Job Description

Schedule/Hours:

  • Day shift: Three 12-hour shifts per week (36 hours), 7:00 am7:30 pm
  • Includes Saturday shifts (required once or twice per 8-week schedule for travelers)
  • Required on-call: two day and two night shifts per 8 weeks (Saturday and Sunday coverage)

Qualifications:

  • Active RN license to practice in Washington, DC
  • Minimum two years of recent PACU and Preop experience in a high-acuity setting
  • At least two years of ICU experience (not surgicenter or low-acuity settings)
  • Graduate of an accredited or NLN-approved nursing program (BSN preferred)
  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS (required); CPAN, TNCC, CCRN (highly desirable)
  • Proven ability to think critically and work independently

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor patients recovery from anesthesia, including consciousness and vital signs
  • Identify and respond to post-anesthesia complications, including pain and side effects
  • Administer medications as prescribed and document all interventions accurately in EMR
  • Communicate patient status updates to the multidisciplinary medical team
  • Provide education to patients and families regarding post-operative care and address concerns
