Job Description
An opportunity is available for an experienced registered nurse specializing in post-anesthesia care (RN-PACU) to support patient recovery in a surgical setting on the island of Hawaii. This contract position involves crucial care responsibilities in the pre-operative stage and during Phase I and Phase II recovery after surgery.
Key responsibilities include monitoring patients vital signs, managing incision site care, and using specialized equipment such as Meditech, PCA Pumps, Pyxis systems, Braun IV Pumps, Cryocuffs, Sequential Compression Devices, Bair PAWS Warmers, and various patient monitors. The role demands critical thinking skills and strong clinical expertise to identify signs of stability or potential complications during recovery.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years experience as a critical care RN (e.g., ICU or ER) which may substitute for direct PACU experience.
- Current valid professional nursing license in the state of Hawaii is mandatory by the start date.
- Certifications required: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) through the American Heart Association.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is recommended and may be required.
- Specialty certifications such as NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) are preferred.
Schedule:
- Shifts vary between 8, 10, and 12 hours including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- On-call duties 0-3 times per month including 8-hour night and 24-hour weekend/holiday shifts.
- No guaranteed shift or hours; flexibility is necessary.
- Candidates must be available to arrive the Thursday before assignment start for employee health clearance on Friday.
Additional requirements include proof of flu vaccination or a facility-approved exemption before the contract begins.
