Job Description

A Registered Nurse specializing in Post-Anesthesia Care (RN-PACU) is accountable for delivering exceptional patient care and ensuring a safe, comfortable recovery environment. This role emphasizes patient- and family-centered care while supporting quality outcomes and customer satisfaction. The RN-PACU is responsible for supervising licensed and non-licensed team members and applying evidence-based practices within a collaborative governance framework.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform thorough patient assessments and continuous reassessments, responding promptly to changes in condition.
  • Develop, implement, and prioritize individualized care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Monitor patient responses to clinical interventions, documenting outcomes accurately.
  • Provide education tailored to patient and family needs throughout the recovery process and at discharge.
  • Supervise and mentor nursing staff and support personnel, fostering teamwork and professional growth.
  • Participate actively in quality improvement, safety initiatives, and regulatory compliance efforts.
  • Promote evidence-based practice and contribute to practice governance to enhance unit performance.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license with experience in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit.
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience mentoring or precepting nursing staff preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively collaborate within interdisciplinary teams.
