Job Description

A registered nurse with expertise in post-anesthesia care is sought for a contract assignment in a hospital setting in Hilo, HI. This role focuses on the comprehensive care of patients before surgery, in Phase I and II recovery, requiring acute critical care skills alongside advanced knowledge in anesthesiology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide nursing care to patients pre-operation and during post-anesthesia recovery phases.
  • Assess surgical incision sites, monitor vital signs, and observe for potential complications.
  • Collaborate with surgical and anesthesiology teams to ensure patient safety and optimal recovery.
  • Utilize clinical equipment including Meditech, PCA Pumps, Pyxis, Braun IV Pumps, Cryocuff, SCD's, Bair Paws Warmers, and patient monitoring systems.
  • Attend employee health appointments promptly and meet all health clearance requirements before starting the assignment.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years as a critical care RN in emergency or intensive care settings; PACU experience is preferred.
  • Valid BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association.
  • Active professional nursing license in the state of Hawaii is required by the start date; applicants without must apply immediately upon job acceptance.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is recommended and may be mandatory, depending on the assignment.
  • Additional specialty certifications (such as NIHSS and TNCC) are a plus.

Shift and Schedule Details:

  • Shifts range from 8, 10, to 12 hours including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays with no guaranteed preference.
  • On-call duties 0-3 times per month involving 8-hour night and 24-hour weekend/holiday shifts.
