Job Description

Step into a vital nursing role providing expert care in the operating room for a respected healthcare facility on a contract basis. This position involves direct collaboration with surgeons and multi-disciplinary teams to deliver the highest standard of care throughout all phases of surgical procedures.

Schedule:

  • Four 10-hour shifts per week
  • On-call required two days per week (5pm7pm or from shift end)
  • One weekend on call (Saturday and Sunday) every three weeks with 24-hour coverage on those days

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Current RN licensure for Massachusetts
  • Completion of an RN First Assisting program that meets AORN Core Curriculum standards
  • Minimum five years of diverse perioperative nursing experience with both scrubbing and circulating proficiency
  • Active ACLS and BLS certification (AHA or American Red Cross)
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the surgeon as first assist throughout operative procedures, ensuring patient safety and adherence to best practices
  • Circulate as needed based on surgical team assignments
  • Monitor patient status and surgical environment, anticipating needs and promptly responding to emergent situations
  • Maintain sterile field, instruments, and equipment
  • Document intraoperative details accurately and legibly
  • Uphold organizational, departmental, and regulatory policies and procedures
