Job Description

An opportunity is available for a registered nurse with acute care operating room experience to support a Level 1 Trauma Center in Des Plaines, IL. This contract position offers a structured night schedule with four 10-hour shifts per week (8:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.) and weekend responsibilities every other weekend, fostering consistent hours and work-life balance.

Responsibilities include proficiently supporting surgical teams as a scrub or circulating nurse across multiple specialties. The RN will float within the facility's scope to assist where needed and is expected to perform in a fast-paced trauma environment. Strong scrub and circulate skills are essential, with experience in orthopedics, ortho trauma, vascular, urology, and general surgery required. Additional skills in neurosurgery, open heart/thoracic procedures, ophthalmology, ENT, bariatrics, and gynecology are preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Active RN license with a minimum of 2 years recent acute care OR experience
  • Level 1 trauma experience strongly desired
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Must reside within 75 miles of the facility (local candidates preferred)
  • No pending license accepted

Shift & Schedule Details:

  • Night shift: 4x10-hour shifts (8:30 p.m.7:00 a.m.)
  • Call required once a month on a weekend 10-hour shift
  • Weekend coverage every other weekend (2 per month)
  • Restricted time-off policy to ensure smooth staffing coverage
  • Facility mandates floating among units within scope

The operating room environment uses Cerner for charting and provides navy blue scrub uniforms. This is an exceptional setting for nurses wanting to sharpen trauma-based surgical nursing skills in a high-acuity Level 1 trauma center.
