Job Description

Step into a critical role supporting surgical excellence in a busy Operating Room environment. A skilled Registered Nurse with significant experience in peri-operative nursing is sought for a contract opportunity, working under the direction of the Operating Room Nurse Manager. This position supports surgeons through the full scope of procedures, including responsibilities as an RN First Assistant and, on occasion, circulating nurse, ensuring patient safety and surgical success.

Schedule & On-Call Details:

  • Four 10-hour shifts per week
  • On-call two days a week (from 5 p.m. or end of shift to 7 p.m.)
  • One weekend of call every three weekends (24-hour coverage for both Saturday and Sunday)

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an approved School of Nursing
  • Active Massachusetts RN license
  • Current certifications in ACLS and Basic Life Support (BLS) from the AHA or American Red Cross
  • Completion of an RN First Assisting course in alignment with AORN Core Curriculum
  • Minimum of five years of peri-operative nursing experience, demonstrating proficiency in both scrubbing and circulating roles

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as RN First Assistant, providing direct support to surgeons throughout operative procedures
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary surgical teams to maintain optimal operative conditions and adherence to safety protocols
  • Deliver patient-centered care before, during, and after surgery, anticipating needs and responding to dynamic clinical developments
  • Assume circulating nurse responsibilities as assigned, including instrument preparation, patient advocacy, and documentation
  • Maintain compliance with all hospital and regulatory policies
