Job Description

An opportunity is available for an experienced NICU Registered Nurse to provide specialized care in a well-established neonatal intensive care unit. This contract position requires Level 2 NICU experience and offers the chance to work with a dedicated team in a supportive environment.

Location: Aurora, CO (with clinical duties at a nearby medical center in Thornton, CO, a short commute from Aurora)

Schedule/Hours:

  • Night shift: 7 PM to 7 AM

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct nursing care for neonates in a 6-bed NICU with patient ratios ranging from 1:1 for ventilated babies to 3:1 for feeders and growers.
  • Assist Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNPs) with procedures such as umbilical line placement, intubation, lumbar puncture assistance, and circumcisions.
  • Participate in admissions and initial stabilization of newborns in the delivery room.
  • Utilize specialized equipment including Giraffe Omnibeds, STAR GE resuscitation for transport, and EMR systems (CPN and Meditech).
  • Adhere to unit guidelines and standards of care aligned with the states largest NICU.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Minimum Level 2 NICU experience is mandatory.
  • Experience in admissions and stabilizing newborns immediately post-delivery.
  • Preferred candidates have Level 3 or 4 NICU experience.
  • Familiarity with Eat Sleep Console protocols for Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented, family-like culture.

  • Scrubs are provided and must be worn as per the dress code; non-offensive tattoos and nose studs permitted, no other facial piercings.
  • The unit has an average nurse NICU experience of 15 years with highly engaged nursing colleagues and leadership.
