Job Description
This nursing opportunity offers a rewarding experience caring for diverse surgical patients within a dynamic medical-surgical unit. The unit primarily serves bariatric, bladder, and orthopedic surgery patients, including total knees and hips, along with a variety of other surgical cases. Additional patient populations include individuals with diabetes, kidney and liver failure, cardiac conditions, stroke recovery, and respiratory issues.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience, preferably in medical-surgical or post-operative care
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- Proficient in MSU skill sets including cardiac rhythm interpretation, wound care, chest tube management
- Experience managing infusions such as cardiac, heparin, and insulin drips
- Comfortable with electronic health records, specifically EPIC
Responsibilities:
- Manage a patient load with a ratio of 1:4-5 during the day and 1:5-7 at night
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care including post-operative monitoring and complex patient needs
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members including CNAs, charge nurses, phlebotomists, respiratory therapists, and hospitalists who provide 24/7 support
- Utilize advanced telemetry and centralized monitoring systems to ensure patient safety
- Participate in weekend rotations every other weekend; enjoy scheduled holidays during summer and winter with the possibility of approved time off
Work Schedule & Environment:
- Contract position based in Waukesha, WI, with free employee parking available
- Professional attire required; any scrub color accepted except denim or camouflage
- Orientation includes dedicated onboarding time to ensure smooth integration into the team
