Job Description

A nursing opportunity is available in Waukesha, WI, offering a contract position on a specialized medical-surgical unit within a well-equipped healthcare setting. This role suits Registered Nurses with 1-3 years of experience, particularly those with skills in caring for older adults and acute medical conditions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing care primarily for elderly patients (>65 years old) with complex medical conditions such as dementia, stroke, diabetes, and cardiac issues.
  • Managing observation patients admitted for 24 hours or less on a faster-paced side of the unit.
  • Administering and managing treatments such as wound care, insulin drips, chest tubes, and various feeding tubes.
  • Monitoring patient telemetry and interpreting cardiac strips.
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, including charge nurses, CNAs, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech therapists.
  • Utilizing electronic charting systems including EPIC, Alaris, Pyxis, and centralized telemetry monitoring.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure with 1-3 years of relevant nursing experience.
  • Certification in BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
  • Proficiency in medical-surgical nursing skillsets, especially in caring for older adults.
  • Experience with complex patient care including managing tachs, PEG tubes, NGT, and telemetry interpretation is preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a supportive team environment.

Schedule/Hours:

  • Weekend rotations may be required approximately every other weekend, with no on-call duties.
  • Holiday work expectations apply.
  • Professional attire (scrub color flexible, no denim or camouflage).
