Job Description
An opportunity is available for a Registered Nurse with MedSurg/Telemetry experience to provide exceptional inpatient care at a busy teaching hospital with Level 1 Trauma designation. This role involves floating across several MedSurg/Tele units, each with 20 to 36 beds, offering diverse patient care experiences in a facility recognized as a Chest Pain and Stroke Center.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct patient care in medical-surgical and telemetry units, managing patient ratios ranging from 1:4 to 1:6.
- Perform tracheostomy care, chest tube management, and peripheral IV starts.
- Administer and monitor cardiac-related drips such as insulin and heparin, requiring proficiency in titrating to heart rate.
- Collaborate with CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, and support teams including RT, hospitalists, and intensivists to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Utilize EMR (EPIC), Alariso IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and various monitors (Phillips, VS3 vital signs, Nova Glucose Stat Strips).
- Participate in a 1-day orientation plus 2 days of departmental training.
- Float as needed among MedSurg/Telemetry units to support staffing demands.
Qualifications:
- Current RN license.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in MedSurg and telemetry nursing.
- BLS certification required; ACLS preferred.
- Successful completion of an EKG competency exam during onboarding.
- Certification in medical-surgical nursing is a plus.
- Skills in common drips, trach care, chest tube management, and cardiac monitoring.
