Job Description

Collaborate within an interdisciplinary team at a Level 1 Trauma and teaching center known for complex post-surgical care, cardiac monitoring, and acute chronic disease management. Schedule:

  • 12-hour shifts: 7AM7PM or 7PM7AM
  • Weekend rotation: 5-6 shifts of 12 within a 6-week cycle
  • No on-call required
  • Holiday scheduling: one major holiday per cycle, as outlined by the department

Qualifications & Preferred Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience
  • Active RN license
  • BLS certification required; must pass EKG competency (Basic Cardiac Rhythm)
  • ACLS and national certifications (such as CMSRN or nephrology nursing) preferred but not mandatory
  • Strong clinical assessment skills in a Level 1 Trauma setting
  • First-time travelers welcomed

Key Responsibilities:

  • Care for post-operative patients (orthopedic, bariatric, and spinal surgeries)
  • Manage complex medication drips (non-titratable cardiac, insulin), chest tubes, wound vacs, trachs, PCA pumps
  • Proficient in IV insertion, central line management, and telemetry interpretation (Philips monitors, central telemetry unit)
  • Collaborate on discharge planning, patient education (especially renal/fluid management)
  • Float to all adult med-surg/telemetry units as needed

Support & Resources:

  • Onsite CNA assists with vital signs, ADLs, and patient mobility
  • Unit secretary, resource nurses, discharge team, 24/7 RT, hospitalist, intensivist coverage
  • Department utilizes EPIC EMR, Alaris pumps, Pyxis, and a variety of monitoring technology
