Job Description
A rewarding nursing opportunity is available for a skilled RN with Medical-Surgical experience at a respected Level 1 Trauma academic medical center. This contract position offers the chance to provide quality patient care in a supportive, team-oriented environment within a busy 29-bed Medical-Surgical unit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct and indirect patient care to a diverse population including patients with diabetes, GI, respiratory, renal issues, wounds requiring dressing changes, chest tubes, and tracheostomies
- Perform complex skills such as telemetry monitoring, PIV starts, drain and tube management, PCA pump handling, and gtts management including Amiodarone, Fentanyl PCA, Ketamine PCA, and Heparin
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams including CNAs, phlebotomists, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, intensivists, and rapid response teams
- Utilize electronic medical records (Epic) and medical equipment such as Alariso IV pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing systems
- Adhere to patient ratios of approximately 1:5-6 for RNs and 1:9-10 for CNAs, maintaining strong clinical and communication skills to thrive in a moderately high-stress setting
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Current RN licensure with a minimum of 2 years medical-surgical nursing experience
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (required for resource team)
- Proficient in reading telemetry strips and managing complex patient care needs
- Ability to maintain collaborative communication skills and work well under pressure
- First-time travelers are welcome, provided experience requirements are met
Scheduling & Location:
- Shifts: 6:30 AM7:00 PM or 6:30 PM6:30 AM
- Weekend rotation every other week; holiday shifts approximately 75% coverage
- No on-call responsibilities, parking available free of charge
- Scrubs color: Royal blue

This contract role provides a structured six-week schedule within a unit culture emphasizing patient-centered care and dependable teamwork. Orientation will include a two-day departmental introduction, with support from dedicated charge nurses and specialized teams.
