Job Description

This opportunity is for an experienced Neuro Surgical Registered Nurse (RN-MS) working 12-hour night shifts in a busy, 37-bed neuro-surgical unit. The assignment is a 13-week contract starting in early April, specifically designed for professionals with strong neurocritical care backgrounds. This role requires floating between campuses within reasonable proximity and flexibility for weekend and holiday scheduling.

Responsibilities include delivering specialized care to neuro and neuro-surgical patients, such as post-op cranial cases, stroke (CVA) patients, and elective back/neck surgeries. Duties also involve managing complex neurological assessments, administering blood products, initiating and titrating heparin drips, and performing dysphagia screening and NIHSS evaluations. Nurses will perform charting in EPIC after completing a checkoff class and actively participate in a dynamic team noted for leadership stability and clinical expertise.

Key Qualifications and Experience:

  • Active, current compact RN license
  • Minimum two years of strong neurological nursing experience
  • At least one prior travel nursing assignment
  • Trauma Level II experience preferred
  • Recent EPIC charting experience required
  • Certified in AHA BLS and NIHSS
  • Competency with neuro assessments, basic telemetry, strict intake & output monitoring, and managing NG tubes and drains
  • Strong critical thinking skills and ability to manage complex patient care

Scheduling and Float Requirements:

  • 12-hour night shifts (6:30 PM 7:00 AM), with no blocked schedule requests
  • Float within skillset to nearby campuses (811 miles)
  • Three weekends every six weeks; alternating holiday coverage
  • Guaranteed 36 hours/week, with optional 48 hours on request; OT after 52 hours on extended schedules
