Job Description

A rewarding opportunity is available for a Registered Nurse skilled in Medical-Surgical care to support a well-established unit focused on elder and observation patient populations. This contract position is located in Racine, WI, offering a chance to contribute in a dynamic hospital setting with advanced patient care resources.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Current RN licensure with 1-3 years of nursing experience
  • Proficient in Medical-Surgical Unit (MSU) nursing skill set, especially older adult care
  • Experience managing patients with dementia, stroke, delirium, diabetes, and multi-organ failure
  • Competency in wound care, insulin drip management, telemetry interpretation
  • Skilled in handling chest tubes, tachycardia management, nasogastric tubes (NGT), and PEG tubes
  • Required certifications: BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Familiarity with EPIC electronic health record system preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver compassionate nursing care to acute and observation patients, ensuring high-quality outcomes
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including CNAs, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and rehab staff
  • Monitor patient vitals and telemetry, respond appropriately to changes in condition
  • Support compliance with safety protocols including patient security measures and infection control

Schedule and Work Environment:

  • 1:5 patient ratio during the day; 1:6-7 at night
  • Weekend rotation based on unit needs, with potential every-other-weekend schedule
  • No on-call or holiday work expected
  • Professional attire required; free employee parking available
