Job Description

A registered nurse is needed for a fast-paced medical/surgical telemetry unit located in Racine, WI. This contract opportunity offers the chance to provide and coordinate comprehensive patient care while utilizing clinical decision-making, evidence-based practice, and compassionate communication. The role demands delivering safe, therapeutic care in line with established standards and policies, contributing to the best patient experience across the care continuum.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients with complex conditions including diabetes, kidney, liver, heart failure, respiratory issues, stroke, and cardiac dysrhythmias.
  • Administer specialized care such as wound management, insulin and heparin infusions, tracheostomy and chest tube care, nasogastric feeding tubes, and suctioning.
  • Monitor telemetry with centralized support from tele techs and maintain appropriate nurse-to-patient ratios (Day 1:5, Night 1:6).
  • Collaborate with charge nurses, unit leadership, hospital supervisors, and clinical resource nurses to support safe and effective care.
  • Adapt to fast admission and discharge cycles, managing 8-10 changes daily.
  • Participate in weekend rotations every other weekend and holidays.

Qualifications/Desired Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year nursing experience in a medical/surgical or telemetry setting.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Familiarity with wound care, infusion therapies, tracheostomies, chest tubes, and feeding tubes.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Flexibility to float into MST or overflow units as needed (rare).

Schedule/Hours:

  • Three 12-hour shifts (19000730).
  • Weekend rotation every other weekend plus holidays.
  • No call responsibilities.
