Job Description

Deliver advanced oncology nursing care in a dynamic medical center known for its academic excellence and comprehensive cancer services in Winston-Salem, NC. This contract position offers a valuable opportunity to support diverse oncology patient populations, including hematology, surgical, and gynecologic oncology cases, within a state-of-the-art facility boasting Level 1 Trauma and Chest Pain Center designations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized nursing care to oncology patients, managing symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and mucositis.
  • Perform venipuncture, IV insertions, central line access, and maintain central line care.
  • Monitor lab values and manage infection prevention protocols.
  • Administer blood product transfusions safely.
  • Collaborate with CNA, charge nurses, respiratory therapists, and utilize telemetry monitoring for comprehensive patient management.
  • Navigate electronic medical records (Epic), IV pumps (Alaris), and medication dispensing systems effectively.
  • Float within the cancer center and other medical-surgical units as needed in emergencies.

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Current RN licensure with at least 1 year oncology nursing experience.
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (resource team requirement).
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) credential preferred.
  • Proficiency in venipuncture, IV access, central line procedures, wound care, and transfusion protocols.

Schedule & Work Environment:

  • Shift options: Days (6:30 AM7:00 PM) or Nights (6:30 PM7:00 AM).
  • Weekend rotation every other weekend; travelers will work approximately 75% of holidays.
  • Orientation includes a 2-day departmental new employee orientation.
  • Schedule cycles every 6 weeks; ready to extend up to a full 13-week assignment.
  • Scrub color: royal blue; free on-site parking.
