Job Description

Deliver advanced neuro-surgical nursing care overnight in a dynamic hospital setting focused on neurological and neurosurgical patients. This 13-week contract role emphasizes clinical expertise in managing complex cases such as CVAs, post-op cranis, cerebral angiograms, and elective back/neck surgeries. The position supports a team-oriented unit with a strong leadership foundation and offers a professional environment that values resilience and critical thinking.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide skilled nursing care for neuro and neuro-surgical patient populations, including neurological assessments using NIHSS and dysphagia screening.
  • Administer and titrate heparin drips, manage blood/blood product administration, and perform venipuncture and blood cultures.
  • Care for indwelling drains, NG tubes, and maintain strict intake and output documentation.
  • Utilize recent EPIC charting experience with completion of a checkoff class.
  • Float within skillset to nearby campuses as required, with appropriate notice.
  • Collaborate with a dedicated team, precept students and new hires as needed.
  • Adhere to prescribed safety and care standards in a Level II trauma setting.

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Active compact RN license.
  • Current AHA BLS and NIHSS certifications.
  • Minimum two years neuro nursing experience including one travel assignment.
  • Recent experience in trauma level II facility.
  • Strong neurological assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience in tele interpretation, Foley catheter care, and medication gtts.
  • Comfortable working 12-hour night shifts without blocked schedule requests.

Schedule & Location:

  • 12-hour night shifts (6:30 PM - 7:00 AM).
  • Three weekends every six weeks.
  • Located in Newburgh, IN, with float opportunities to nearby campuses 811 miles away.
  • Must be outside a 40-mile radius; no local candidates.

Unit Description: A 37-bed neuro-surgical unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:57 during night shifts. The team consists of experienced, welcoming nurses supported by strong leadership. Navy blue scrubs required; no competing logos.

This contract opportunity offers consistent guaranteed hours with overtime available after 52 hours on 48-hour schedules. Orientation is bi-weekly starting at specified dates. Join a teaching hospital environment that values excellence and professional growth.
