An opportunity is available for a registered nurse with medical-surgical skills to provide exceptional care in a well-equipped hospital setting located in Milwaukee, WI. This contract position is ideal for nurses with 1-3 years of experience who thrive in a dynamic environment specializing in care for older adults and observation patients. The role offers a balanced mix of medical-surgical nursing with a focus on patients experiencing dementia, stroke, cardiac and respiratory conditions, and other complex illnesses.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care for medical-surgical patients, primarily older adults, including those with dementia, stroke, diabetes, and multi-organ failure.
- Monitor patients requiring observation care for up to 24 hours in a fast-paced unit.
- Manage specialized nursing tasks such as wound care, insulin drip, chest tubes, tachs, NGT, and PEG tubes.
- Interpret cardiac and other telemetry strips to support patient monitoring.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including hospitalists, respiratory therapists, occupational and physical therapists.
- Maintain documentation and charting utilizing EPIC electronic health record system.
- Adhere to infection control protocols and use PPE as required.
- Participate in scheduled weekend rotations on a strong weekend program without on-call responsibilities.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Current RN license.
- Medical-Surgical Unit (MSU) skillset with experience caring for older adults.
- Certifications: BLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
- Ability to manage acutely ill patients and those with complex needs.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
