Job Description
Take your nursing expertise to a dynamic medical-surgical/telemetry unit within a highly respected teaching hospital and Level 1 Trauma Center. This contract opportunity is ideal for compassionate registered nurses who thrive in fast-paced environments and excel at patient-centered care. You'll support a diverse patient population, including post/pre-cardiac and step-down ICU patients with diagnoses such as CHF, COPD, STEMI, NSTEMI, and sepsis.
Schedule/Hours:
- 12-hour shifts: 7A-7P or 7P-7A
- Weekend rotation: 5-6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
- No on-call
- Holiday coverage: one shift each major holiday
Qualifications & Experience:
- Active RN license with at least 2 years experience in med-surg/telemetry
- BLS and Basic Cardiac Rhythm (EKG Rhythm exam required during onboarding)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
- Medical-surgical certification preferred but not required
- Strong assessment skills for a Level 1 Trauma setting
- Proficiency in trach care, chest tube management, IV insertion, central line care, wound/post-op monitoring, and telemetry interpretation
- Experience with glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, and titrating HR drips (not BP)
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality nursing care for cardiac and complex medical patients
- Collaborate with CNAs, unit secretaries, resource and discharge nurses
- Manage care coordination, discharge planning, and robust patient education
- Float to all MedSurg telemetry units as needed within facility guidelines
- Use EMR (EPIC), Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing
