This contract role supports a bustling MedSurg/Telemetry unit within a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, renowned for its advanced cardiac and stroke programs. Youll be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team dedicated to patient outcomes and professional growth.
Schedule/Hours:
- 12-hour shifts: 7A7P or 7P7A
- Every 6 weeks: 56 weekend shifts out of 12
- Holiday rotation: one shift per each major holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve/Day, New Years Eve/Day)
- No on-call requirements
Qualifications:
- Active RN license and BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years recent Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience
- BCR (Basic Cardiac Rhythm) proficiency; must pass EKG competency during onboarding
- ACLS preferred; additional national certification a plus
- Experience with trach care, chest tube management, PIV/IV insertion, telemetry, and post-op care
- Strong clinical assessment, wound care, and cardiac monitoring skills
- Confident using EPIC, Alaris IV pumps, and other unit-specific technology
- First-time travelers welcome
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage 46 patients per shift (RN ratio), caring for adults post orthopedic, bariatric, and spinal surgeries as well as those with cardiac, renal, and chronic/acute medical conditions
- Oversee care coordination, discharge planning, and thorough patient educationespecially renal and fluid management
- Collaborate with CNAs, support staff, and interdisciplinary professionals including hospitalists, intensivists, respiratory therapy, and central telemetry
- Perform central line care, wound monitoring, IV therapy, and medication administration
- Respond within a fast-paced, team-oriented setting and adapt to floating among adult MedSurg/Tele units as needed
