Job Description
A specialized nursing opportunity is open for experienced Neuro Surgical MS RNs skilled in managing neuro and neuro-surgical patients in a hospital setting. This contract role requires night shift availability and demands critical thinking and strong assessment abilities for complex patient care, including neuro CVAs, post-op cranis, and cerebral angiograms.
Key Qualifications:
- Active compact RN license
- AHA BLS and NIHSS certification
- Minimum two years of strong neuro experience, including trauma level II and at least one travel assignment
- Recent EPIC charting experience (checkoff class required)
- Proficiency in NIHSS/dysphagia screening, tele interpretation, blood product administration, heparin titration, Foley catheter care, NG tubes, and drain management
- Strong critical thinking and assessment skills
Location & Schedule:
- Evansville, IN, with floating required between campus locations approximately 8 to 11 miles apart; 2-hour notice for cross-campus floating
- 12-hour night shifts (6:30 PM to 7 AM)
- Guaranteed 36 hours weekly (48 hours on request; overtime after 52 hours)
- Three weekends out of every six weeks and alternating holiday coverage
- No call-back or on-call duties
- Strict no blocked scheduling requests
Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality care to neuro and neuro-surgical patients
- Monitor and manage patient conditions, perform strict intake and output recordings
- Administer medications and blood products while adhering to hospital protocols
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including precepting new hires and students as required
- Maintain accurate EPIC documentation
