Job Description

A skilled Registered Nurse with med/surg and telemetry expertise is needed for a travel assignment in the Charlotte, NC area. This role focuses on providing exceptional patient care within a dynamic hospital environment that includes a Chest Pain Center and a Stroke Center. Candidates will support multiple inpatient units as well as the emergency department holding area, caring for patients with complex diagnoses such as CHF, COPD, stroke symptoms, chest pain workup, and respiratory issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver competent nursing care on Med/Tele units with an emphasis on cardiac rhythms, stroke care, and respiratory support.
  • Manage invasive lines and tubes, including chest tubes, trach care, Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, and Foley catheters.
  • Administer medication drips including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IV fluids.
  • Collaborate with CNAs, charge nurses, IV/VAT teams, respiratory therapists, and hospitalists for coordinated patient care.
  • Utilize EMR (Epic) and technology including Alaris IV pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing.
  • Float to various hospital units within the region as needed to meet staffing demands.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum 18 months experience as a Med/Tele RN.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications are required.
  • Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, trach care, and multi-system drain management.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced setting with patient ratios typically 1:5-6.
  • Travel nurses must have a permanent address at least 50 miles outside the home hospital's unit radius.
  • First-time travelers will be considered but preference is for experienced travel nurses.

Schedule and Work Environment:

  • Weekend rotation every other week.
  • No call shifts.
  • Work approximately 75% of holidays.
  • Orientation includes a 2-day unit-specific training.
  • Scrubs are navy; free parking provided.
  • Floating within a defined region may be required; travel time between facilities is compensated during the work shift.
