A specialized opportunity is available for an experienced Neuro Surgical Nurse to contribute care expertise during a 13-week contract assignment in a well-established hospital setting located in Chandler, Indiana. This role is designed for Registered Nurses with a Masters scope license who thrive in a fast-paced neuro-surgical environment and are ready to work 12-hour night shifts.
Responsibilities include providing comprehensive nursing care to patients with neurological and neuro-surgical conditions such as CVAs, elective back and neck surgeries, post-op craniotomies, and cerebral angiograms. The role requires execution of skilled assessments (including NIHSS and dysphagia screening), management of telemetry, initiation and titration of heparin drips, blood product administration, and care for indwelling devices such as NG tubes and drains. Nurses must demonstrate strong critical thinking to effectively support a patient population with neuro, medical, and psychiatric needs.
Key Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Registered Nurse with active compact licensure and Masters scope
- Minimum two years of strong neuro nursing experience, including trauma level II and one travel assignment
- Proficient recent EPIC charting skills (checkoff class required)
- Current AHA BLS and NIHSS certifications
- Ability to float within skillset between nearby campuses with short notice
- Strong assessment and communication skills in critical care settings
Schedule and Shift Details:
- 12-hour night shifts, 6:30 pm to 7:00 am
- Three weekends out of every six weeks and holiday rotation every other holiday
- Guaranteed 36 hours weekly with options to accept 48 hours (OT applies after 52 hours)
- No blocked schedule requests; competitive nursing ratios and leadership support
