Job Description

A specialized nursing opportunity awaits experienced Neuro Surgical RNs for a night shift role at a well-established teaching hospital. This 13-week contract position focuses on providing expert care to neuro and neuro-surgical patients requiring critical, detail-oriented nursing interventions.

Location Overview
Situated in a growing community in Indiana, the hospital is part of a vibrant healthcare network located approximately 8 miles from a sister campus, with occasional float opportunities within the system including a nearby facility in Kentucky. The area offers a comfortable living environment with access to local amenities and regional attractions.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive care to neuro and neuro-surgical patients, including those recovering from CVAs, elective spine surgeries, post-op craniotomies, and cerebral angiograms
  • Utilize advanced neuro assessment skills (NIHSS, dysphagia screening) and perform critical procedures such as catheter management, heparin infusion titration, blood product administration, and NG tube care
  • Accurately chart patient care using EPIC electronic health records and participate in required checkoff training
  • Float within skill set to nearby campuses when needed with a 2-hour notice for cross-campus assignments
  • Participate in precepting students and new hires in this teaching hospital setting
  • Uphold unit standards with a ratio of 1 nurse to 5-7 patients during night shifts

Desired Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of strong neuro nursing experience, including at least one travel assignment and trauma level II exposure
  • Current active compact RN license and certifications in AHA BLS and NIHSS
  • Proficiency with EPIC charting system
  • Strong critical thinking, resilience, and adaptability in a dynamic clinical environment

Schedule

  • 12-hour night shifts (6:30 PM to 7:00 AM)
  • Three weekends every six weeks, with holiday rotations every other holiday
  • Guaranteed 36 hours weekly; option for up to 48 hours (overtime after 52 hours)

Additional Information

  • Navy blue scrubs required; no competing agency logos permitted
  • Must live outside a 40-mile radius; no local candidates considered
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but subject to change
  • Strict attendance policy with termination after three call-ins
