Job Description

A 13-week contract opportunity is available for an experienced RN with Med/Surg expertise to provide skilled observation nursing care. This role offers a professional setting with a strong team atmosphere and the chance to practice critical nursing skills in a 23-bed cardiac and post-surgical observation unit.

Schedule & Hours

  • 12-hour day shifts from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM
  • Guaranteed 36 hours weekly (48 hours available upon request with overtime after 52 hours)
  • Weekend rotation: three weekends every six weeks
  • No on-call or callback requirements

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care for patients including cardiac cath recovery, post-surgical cases, and neurological assessments
  • Manage interventions such as initiating/titrating drips (Heparin, Insulin), NG tube insertion, blood administration, and catheter care
  • Conduct NIHSS and dysphagia screenings
  • Float within the skillset across nearby campuses as needed, with proper notice
  • Charting in EPIC system with training provided
  • Support patient populations with cardiac, neurological, GI, urological, and detoxification needs
  • Collaborate with an experienced nursing team focused on quality care and low turnover
  • Potentially assist with precepting students and new hires in this teaching hospital setting

Qualifications & Experience

  • Current active compact RN license required
  • AHA BLS and NIHSS certifications required upon application
  • Minimum of two years acute Med/Surg nursing experience plus at least one travel assignment
  • Recent EPIC charting experience mandatory
  • Strong critical thinking and assessment skills
