Job Description

Become an essential part of a dynamic, high-performing medical-surgical/telemetry team in a large teaching hospital with Level 1 Trauma and advanced cardiac care designations. This contract role offers a unique opportunity to deliver skilled nursing care to a diverse, acute population in a supportive, collaborative environment.

Schedule:

  • 12-hour shifts: 7A-7P or 7P-7A
  • Schedule cycle is every 6 weeks
  • Weekend rotation: 5-6 shifts in each 12-shift (6-week) period
  • Holiday coverage: one major holiday per season
  • No on-call requirement

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid RN license and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) certification or successful completion of EKG Rhythm exam during onboarding
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in med/surg telemetry setting
  • ACLS and national med-surg certification preferred, not required
  • Proficiency in trach care, chest tube management, PIV and central line skills, cardiac/telemetry monitoring, and wound/post-op care
  • Previous experience with post/pre-cardiac, step-down ICU patients, and diagnoses such as CHF, COPD, STEMI/NSTEMI, and SEPSIS
  • Solid clinical assessment skills in a Level 1 Trauma environment
  • Competence in Epic EMR and related clinical technology

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver safe, evidence-based care to a 30-bed MedSurge/Tele unit with 1:4-6 nurse-patient ratios
  • Administer IV therapies, drips (insulin/heparin), and coordinate patient care with a multidisciplinary team
  • Discharge planning and patient education, including renal/fluid management
  • Collaborate with dedicated CNAs, unit secretaries, and resource nurses
  • Participate in cross-unit float pool as needed
