A nursing opportunity is available in Brookfield, WI, offering a rewarding contract position focused on adult medical-surgical care. This role is well-suited for RNs with at least one year of experience, including those embarking on their first travel assignment. The position involves caring for a diverse surgical patient population with a focus on bariatric, orthopedic, and other surgical specialties, including patients with complex medical conditions such as diabetes, renal and liver failure, cardiac issues, stroke, and respiratory challenges.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year nursing experience in a medical-surgical setting
- Current BLS and ACLS certification required
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and management of post-operative patients
- Skilled in wound care and chest tube management
- Knowledgeable in administering cardiac, heparin, and insulin drips (gtts)
- Familiarity with MSU nursing skill sets and telemetry monitoring systems such as EPIC and Alaris is preferred
Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality patient care adhering to established protocols on a 32-bed medical-surgical unit
- Manage a patient ratio of approximately 1:4-5 during the day and 1:5-7 at night
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team including CNAs, charge nurses, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and rehab therapists
- Utilize electronic medical records and centralized telemetry systems to ensure accurate documentation and patient monitoring
- Participate in weekend rotations every other weekend with no on-call or holiday requirements beyond one summer and one winter holiday
