An opportunity is available for a registered nurse with 1-3 years of experience to provide compassionate and skilled care in a medical-surgical setting focused on older adult patients. This contract position is based in Brookfield, WI, offering exposure to a dynamic hospital unit specializing in a mix of acute and observation care.
The unit primarily cares for elder patients with medical complexities such as dementia, stroke, diabetes, kidney, liver, and heart failure, as well as respiratory issues and cardiac dysrhythmias. Half the unit functions as a Medical-Surgical Unit (MSU) with a patient ratio of 1:5 during the day and 1:6-7 at night. The other half is dedicated to observation patients with shorter stays. Support services include CNAs, charge nurses, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and rehabilitation specialists, facilitating comprehensive patient care.
Responsibilities include monitoring patient status, administering treatments such as insulin drips and wound care, managing complex medical devices (chest tubes, NGT, PEG tubes), and interpreting cardiac strips. Familiarity with EPIC charting, Alaris and Pyxis medication systems, and telemetry technology is preferred.
Key Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse with 1-3 years clinical experience
- Proficient in medical-surgical nursing, especially older adult care
- Comfortable managing complex care including wound care, insulin drips, chest tubes, and enteral feeding tubes
- Current BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
- Experience with EPIC documentation and relevant hospital systems preferred
