Job Description

A registered nurse with orthopedic expertise is sought for a contract position in Breaux Bridge, LA, supporting a well-regarded orthopedic center specializing in total joint replacements and complex orthopedic surgeries. This night-shift role requires strong clinical leadership and the ability to serve as a charge nurse in a dynamic inpatient environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients undergoing orthopedic procedures including total joint replacements (knees, hips, shoulders), spine surgeries (ACDF, TILF), tendon repairs, and surgical revisions
  • Utilize specialized equipment such as bladder scanners, Hoyer lifts, and orthopedic braces safely and effectively
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality patient outcomes
  • Assume charge nurse responsibilities and lead nursing teams during the assigned shift
  • Be prepared to float to other inpatient units including rehab, post-op trauma, ortho neuro trauma, med-surg, oncology, and observation as needed
  • Participate as part of an emergency response team when assigned, remaining onsite during critical events as directed by unit management

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license with a minimum of 2 years orthopedic nursing experience required
  • Must be charge capable and willing to serve in a charge nurse role
  • Experience with EPIC electronic medical records system required
  • Current ACLS and BLS certification
  • Comfortable working a night shift schedule (3x 12-hour shifts, 7pm-7am)
  • No accommodation of block scheduling; must be able to commit to assignment duration
