An opportunity is available for an experienced Neuro Surgical RN to support critical care needs on night shifts in a high-acuity hospital environment. This 13-week contract position begins in early April and requires a commitment to 12-hour night shifts, providing comprehensive nursing care to neuro and neuro-surgical patients.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver specialized nursing care to patients with cerebrovascular accidents (CVAs), elective back/neck surgeries, post-operative craniotomies, cerebral angiograms, and general medical and psychiatric conditions.
• Utilize strong assessment and critical thinking skills to perform NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) assessments, dysphagia screens, basic telemetry interpretation, strict intake and output monitoring, and catheter management.
• Initiate and titrate heparin drips, administer blood and blood products, perform venipunctures and blood cultures, and manage NG tubes and indwelling drains.
• Exhibit proficiency in charting within the EPIC electronic medical record system, including successful completion of a unit-specific checkoff class.
• Float across campuses within the healthcare system as needed, with appropriate notice.
• Participate in weekend and holiday rotations, approximately three weekends every six weeks and alternating holidays.
• Support unit operations by precepting students and new-hires as required within this teaching hospital environment.

Desired Experience & Qualifications:

• Current active compact RN license.
• Minimum two years of strong neuro nursing experience, including at least one travel assignment.
• Experience at a Level II trauma center.
• Current AHA BLS and NIHSS certifications.

Location Overview: This role is based in Boonville, Indiana, a community known for its welcoming atmosphere and access to regional amenities. The position includes cross-campus float opportunities within an 11-mile radius, providing exposure to diverse patient populations and professional growth.

Schedule:

• 12-hour night shifts (6:30 PM 7:00 AM), no blocked schedule requests.
• Guaranteed 36 hours per week, with option to increase up to 48 hours.
• Overtime applies after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts.
• Weekend and holiday requirements as outlined.
