Job Description
Take on a rewarding contract nursing opportunity in a high-acuity, Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, working on a dynamic 35-bed MedSurg/Tele unit. Contribute your skills as a Registered Nurse caring for adults with acute or chronic conditions, post-surgical needs, and complex comorbidities including diabetes, hypertension, renal failure, CHF, infections, and electrolyte imbalances.
Schedule Details:
- 12-hour shifts (7A-7P or 7P-7A)
- Weekend rotation: 5-6 weekend shifts within each 6-week schedule
- No on-call required
- Expectation to work one shift for each major holiday (as per unit policy)
- Contract position
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Current RN license and BLS certification
- Two years recent MedSurg/Telemetry RN experience
- Competency in Basic Cardiac Rhythm (must pass EKG exam); ACLS preferred
- Skills: Trach care, chest tube management, IV insertion, PIV starts, central line care, wound care, cardiac telemetry, use of Glucommander, insulin and heparin drips (HR titration only), discharge planning, and strong clinical judgment
- Experience with EMR (EPIC) and familiarity with Alaris IV Pump, Pyxis med dispensing, Philips monitors
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage patient care for med-surg and telemetry patients, including complex post-op recovery
- Perform vital assessments, initiate IVs, titrate select drips, and provide wound care
- Monitor cardiac rhythms and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for care coordination and patient education
- Provide support with discharge planning
- Float to other adult med-surg/tele units as needed
Support and Resources:
- CNA assistance for direct patient care support
- Discharge and resource nurses, 24/7 respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
- Central telemetry monitoring and advanced unit equipment
- Unit secretary available 7a-11p, house-wide support overnight
