An exciting contract nursing opportunity is available for skilled Registered Nurses with strong Med/Surg and Telemetry experience. This role supports a high-acuity, Level 1 Trauma designated, teaching hospital setting. Nurses in this position care for diverse adult patient populations, including post/pre-cardiac and step-down ICU cases, with frequent diagnoses such as CHF, COPD, STEMI, NSTEMI, and sepsis.
Schedule/Hours:
- 12-hour shifts: 7A-7P or 7P-7A
- Weekend rotation: 5-6 shifts out of 12 per 6-week schedule
- No on-call
- Holiday coverage: One shift on each major holiday (Thanksgiving Day or day after, 12/24 or 12/25, 12/31 or 1/1)
- Rotating 6-week scheduling cycle
Desired Qualifications:
- Active RN license and BLS certification (required)
- Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR/ EKG Rhythm) assessment (required; part of onboarding)
- Minimum 2 years recent Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience
- ACLS and national medical-surgical certification preferred, not required
- Clinical competency in:
- Trach care, chest tube management, central line and IV insertion
- Wound and post-op care, heparin & insulin drips, glucommander
- Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation
- Patient discharge planning, especially renal/ fluid management
- Strong teamwork and adaptability for floating to all Med/Surg Tele units
- Experience with EPIC, Alaris pumps, Pyxis, Phillip monitors beneficial
Core Responsibilities:
- Direct patient care for adult Med/Surg/Tele populations at a busy, full-capacity unit
- Monitoring vitals, administering medications, and managing drips (titrating HR, not BP)
- Coordinating interdisciplinary care and educating patients/families
- Collaborating with CNAs, unit secretaries, physicians, and department resources
