Job Description

An exciting opportunity is available for a registered nurse with ICU experience to provide skilled care in a step-down unit that specializes in cardiac, stroke, telemetry, and orthopedic patients. This role is well-suited for nurses who have a solid foundation in ICU nursing and want to work in a lower acuity environment that still offers complex patient care challenges.

Location
This position is located in Waukegan, IL, serving patients in a 110-bed, non-trauma specialty hospital known for its orthopedic and spine surgery services. The hospital provides a supportive work environment focused on high-quality patient care and team collaboration.

Qualifications and Desired Experience

  • Current Illinois RN license
  • Minimum of 2 years ICU experience, preferably in cardiac, stroke, telemetry, or step-down units
  • Certifications required: CPR, ACLS, NIHSS
  • Must pass an advanced EKG test on orientation day
  • Experience with complex spine and orthopedic postoperative care
  • Skills checklist and advanced EKG test submission required

Schedule and Contract Details

  • 12-hour night shifts
  • Weekend work every other weekend
  • Orientation on Mondays (EKG test required first day)
  • Potential for floating to other floors

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality nursing care to patients recovering from surgery or experiencing cardiac/stroke-related conditions
  • Monitor telemetry and respond to changes in patient status promptly
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to implement care plans
  • Maintain accurate documentation and comply with facility protocols

This is a contract position with a focus on delivering specialized step-down care in a supportive, team-oriented environment. Nurses comfortable with occasional floating and committed to maintaining certifications will thrive in this role.
